BIAXIAL LINEN FABRIC ±45° – 350 g/m² – AMPLITEX™

Composite reinforcement made of natural flax fibers ampliTex™, biaxial architecture ±45°, intended for applications requiring high vibration damping and a high-performance alternative to glass fibers.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Technical linen fabric made of fibers oriented at ±45° and held together by stitching.
Developed for high-performance composites, this reinforcement offers an excellent compromise between stiffness, damping and reduced environmental impact.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • Fibre: Linen (ampliTex™)
  • Orientation: ±45° (biaxial)
  • Weight: 350 g/m²
  • Width: 310 mm
  • Packaging: linear meter

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES (FIBER)

  • Tensile strength: ~700 MPa
  • Tensile modulus: ~58.5 GPa
  • Density: 1.35 g/cm³

PROPERTIES

  • Excellent vibration absorption
  • High specific stiffness (greater than fiberglass)
  • Low density → weight gain
  • Very good performance under fatigue
  • Reduced environmental footprint
  • Good compatibility with carbon fibers (hybridization)

IMPLEMENTATION

Compatible processes:

  • Contact layering
  • Vacuum infusion
  • Vacuum/compression molding

Compatible resins:

  • Epoxy
  • Polyester

Recommendations:

  • Pre-drying recommended: 110°C / 15 min (natural moisture content of linen)
  • Suggested resin dosage (biax 350 g/m²): ~490 g/m²

APPLICATIONS

  • Snowboards / skis (shock-absorbing layers ±45°)
  • Sandwich structures
  • Technical composite parts
  • Sports, boating, mobility

TERMS OF SALE

  • Width: 310 mm
  • Sold by the linear meter
  • Approximately 4 meters are needed for a pair of skis

OBSERVATIONS

  • Dry product (not pre-impregnated)
  • High resin absorption capacity
  • The final performance depends on the process and the resin used.

TECHNICAL ADVICE – BEHAVIOR & HYBRIDIZATION

Flax is primarily used to improve the dynamic behavior of composites.

Unlike carbon, it provides:

  • more cushioning
  • more gradual
  • improved comfort when bending

Recommended association

  • UD carbon → stiffness / rebound
  • Carbon ±45° → torsion
  • Linen ±45° → cushioning / comfort

→ Allows for structures that are both high-performing and pleasant to use (especially in snowboarding and skiing).
