Topsheet sole repair KIT for splitboard skis snowboard

Repair :

Repairing a deep impact down to the wood requires a methodical approach to ensure a perfect seal and prevent the core from absorbing water.
Here are the installation recommendations

1. The Resin/Hardener Mixture

Our epoxy resin is used by strictly respecting the proportions indicated on the bottles; a kitchen scale is strongly recommended to ensure proper homogenization of the composite.
  • Blend : Mix the components vigorously for at least one minute to obtain a homogeneous consistency.

2. Installation method (Wood impact + Sole patch + Fiberglass mat)

Epoxy resin is used to seal the wood and ensure the patch adheres.
Here is the chronological method:
  • Step 1: Cutting out the patch. Cut a rectangular piece from the supplied sole; this will serve as a cutting template. Use it to cut the shape from the skis, snowboard, splitboard, monoski, etc.
  • Step 2:  Preparing the hole. Using a suitable utility knife, neatly cut out the damaged area with the cutting template to create a clean shape without frayed edges. Lightly sand the exposed wood to create a surface for the new paint to adhere to, then dust and degrease with acetone or alcohol.
  • Step 3: Application of the epoxy. Apply the epoxy mixture to the wood at the bottom of the hole in sufficient quantity to saturate the wood and form an adequate adhesive layer. lay down the glass mat (cut to shape with scissors) which will contain the epoxy resin during bonding.
  • Step 4: Applying the patch. Also apply a thin layer of epoxy under the sole patch before pushing it into the hole. A slight overflow of resin on the sides is normal and indicates the absence of air bubbles.
  • Step 5: Pressing. Place a plastic film such as cellophane over the repair, place a flat wooden wedge on top and underneath and clamp firmly with a clamp to align the patch with the sole.
  • Step 6: Drying and finishing. Allow to dry according to the room temperature (24 hours). Once the resin has hardened, remove the clamp and use a scraper or file to remove the excess and create a flat surface.
Workshop tip: In case of resin spillage, clean immediately before it dries, as it becomes extremely hard afterwards.
